Vertices, Edges and Faces

Vertex, Edge and Face
A vertex is a corner.
An edge is a line segment between faces.
A face is a single apartment surface
.

Permit u.s.a. look more closely at each of those:

Vertices

Vertex

A vertex (plural: vertices) is a point where 2 or more line segments meet.

It is a Corner.

This tetrahedron has iv vertices.

Edges

Pentagon edges
This Pentagon
Has 5 Edges

For apolygon an edge is a line segment on the boundary joining ane vertex (corner indicate) to another.

Edges
This Tetrahedron
Has 6 Edges

For apolyhedron an edge is a line segment where ii faces come across.

Faces

Faces

A face is any of the individual flat surfaces of a solid object.

This tetrahedron has four faces (there is 1 face y'all can't run across)

Sides

"Side" is non a very accurate word, considering it tin mean:

Sides

  • An edge of a polygon, or
  • A face up of a polyhedron

Euler'southward Formula

For many solid shapes the

  • Number of Faces
  • plus the Number of Vertices
  • minus the Number of Edges

always equals 2

This can exist written: F + V − E = 2

cube

Effort it on the cube:

A cube has half-dozen Faces, viii Vertices, and 12 Edges,

so:

6 + eight − 12 = 2
